Prof. Ola Issakson, PhD

Professor Ola Isaksson is Professor of Systems Engineering and Engineering Design at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he leads the Systems Engineering Design research group. His work focuses on the design and integration of complex technologies in advanced products and systems. He also serves as co-leader of the Area of Advance – Production at Chalmers, driving cross-disciplinary innovation and collaboration.

Professor Isaksson holds an MSc in Applied Mechanics and a PhD in Computer-Aided Design. He began his career at Volvo Aero (now GKN Aerospace), where he specialized in advancing methods, tools, and capabilities for product development in the aerospace and space sectors. In 2007, he was appointed Senior Company Specialist and Adjunct Professor at Luleå University of Technology, contributing to the field of Functional Product Development with a focus on servitization, Product-Service Systems, and engineering automation for enhanced decision support.

Since 2015, he has been a full professor at Chalmers. With over 25 years of continuous engagement in national and international R&D programs—particularly within the European Framework Programme—Professor Isaksson has played a leading role in shaping aerospace innovation and engineering research.

He is a board member of the Swedish Aerospace Research Center (SARC), an active member of the European Aeronautics Science Network (EASN), an elected board member of the International Design Society, and a founding member of the Swedish Product Development Academy. In these roles, he contributes to strategic and visionary developments in engineering and design at both national and European levels.

Professor Isaksson has published more than 200 scientific papers on topics related to systems engineering, design methodologies, and integrated product development, establishing himself as a leading voice in the advancement of aerospace engineering.
